THE GLOAMING
Look, day is finished, night almost come. Dark mountains crowd the horizon, the sky awash in a pale half-light, air thick with the whir of cicadas as birds fold their wings in silent repose and the mind’s velocity begins to slow. This, the numinous moment —sufficient unto itself— separating that which was from all that is yet to be.
For "The Gloaming," William Howard Brown was selected as first runner-up in the poetry division of the William Faulkner Literary Competition, which is a part of Mississippi's 2016 Tallahatchie RiverFest.
